Decorating for the Holidays Florida Style

Whether you simply want to bring a little sunshine into your holiday style or you call the Sunshine State home decorating for the holidays Florida style is the perfect way to have a warm, beautiful, and festive holiday season. The Coastal Home Team offers these helpful tips on decorating your holiday home Florida style.

The Christmas Tree Goes Coastal

You know the Christmas tree as the focal point which the family gathers round to open the gifts of the season. Florida-style means you make it all your own. Among the most popular Christmas tree styles is the white-flocked tree, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add Florida flair to a traditional green Christmas tree. Consider adding shell garlands or shimmering white ribbon to emulate snow in coastal style. Your beachy shell finds can be repurposed into ornaments by adding a little glitter and string. Blue ornaments as well as glass “float” ornaments can add to the timeless Florida charm. Consider a pairing or blue and white lights and maybe a tree skirt with sand-colored hues.

Holiday Lights with Florida Flair

In Florida, you won’t see as many snowmen or reindeer lighting up lawns as you might elsewhere. Instead, you’ll probably see lights on the trunks of tropical palms along with inflatable pink flamingos in Santa hats or a sunning Santa relaxing in a hammock. Embracing the tropical warm weather holiday decorations is a simply another way to achieve Florida style. Add string lights to your pathways, patios, lanais, and docks to illuminate and create a festive vibe.

If you want to go more traditional with your outdoor holiday lights, consider creating Christmas trees along your front lawn with lights strung from a stake or pole to create the familiar shape of the holiday favorite.  Add a star, maybe a sea star, or other lighted decoration to the top for a finished look. Net lights allow you to easily transform shrubs and other tropical bushes easily, and lightshow projectors can bring even more fun to your outdoor display with music, lights, and animations.

Find your Unique Florida Style

The goal in finding your Florida holiday style is creating a warm, cozy space for family and friends to enjoy. You can do it easily whether your style is traditional, coastal, minimal, eclectic, or funky. You can go with classic red and green, add some pine, cinnamon, and peppermint scents, or opt for coastal elegance with blues and whites, featuring shells, sea stars, palm tree ornaments, and other nautical themed items.

Hanging your stocking by the chimney with care may get a little tricky if you live in Florida, where fireplaces aren’t always the norm, but you can hang your stockings anywhere as long as St. Nicholas can fill them with goodies. Consider decorating the staircase to complement your tree and hang the stockings there. Find a focal wall, maybe near the Christmas tree, on which to hang the stockings, or add floor stand or hall tree, festively decorated to hold them. Another popular option is windows or even doorknobs throughout the house, both perfect spots that Santa won’t overlook.

Enjoy the Weather

If you are spending the holidays in your Florida home, you have a great opportunity to enjoy the lovely mild temperatures by staging your holiday feast outside for everyone to enjoy. The lanai or the patio is a great place to enjoy Christmas Eve treats, Christmas morning brunch, or a full-blown Christmas dinner.
